Secondary Technical School of Civil Engineering, Mělník
On Thursday 5th December, our last of four workshops took place at SPŠS Mělník, again for third year students.
Speakers focused on how to spot manipulative content and why the emphasis is on verifying information from a variety of independent sources. Students first learned about basic concepts such as “fake news”, “disinformation” and “propaganda”, then learned about tools for assessing media credibility and discussed the specifics of the Czech media space. In the second part of the workshop, students engaged in a discussion about the importance of context in evaluating information and learned the principles of critical thinking that are key to preventing the spread of false information.
Finally, they were introduced to the possibilities of participating in the European Solidarity Corps and Erasmus+ programmes. We would like to thank the school management, teachers and especially the students for their active participation and support in the organisation of this workshop.
