Project report
Our latest project in the picturesque town of Paralimni in Cyprus proved to be a combination of cultural immersion and personal growth. Participants from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Turkey, Cyprus, Romania, Greece and Northern Macedonia projected their own visions directly into the project programme over the course of the days.
The variety of activities built friendly relationships between the participants, fostered understanding and stimulated individual and group development. By dividing the programme activities between the countries, a cornerstone of trust and mutual respect was laid between the participants. Engaging discussions on conflict resolution, social inclusion and human rights ensured an all-round learning experience that was tailored to the diverse backgrounds of the countries represented. The project schedule included interactive workshops directly related to these areas.
The highlight of our experience was the intercultural evenings, where the traditions of each partner country were presented: cuisine, drinks, customs or dances. The youth exchange thus offered a space to discover the similarities between the countries while creating a sense of identity. Planning activities while visiting a local school allowed us not only to pass on our newly acquired experience, but also to get to know Cypriot culture in a more relaxed way from the perspective of the youngest ones.
The project included a free afternoon, which some spent sunbathing on local beaches and others took a trip to Ayia Napa. Overall, the project was challenging, but the Czech team took away invaluable experience that we will definitely use in the near and distant future.
