Secondary Technical School of Civil Engineering, Mělník
On Friday 8 November, two workshops on disinformation and media literacy were held at the SPŠS Mělník, organized by members of the organization Mladoevropani z.s. The aim of the lecturers was to show students how to recognize manipulative content and why it is important to verify facts from multiple independent sources.
The workshop began with an overview of key concepts related to information manipulation, including disinformation, fake news, and propaganda. Participants then delved into the indicators of media credibility and explored the landscape of Czech media.
The second half of the session featured an engaging discussion centered around a case study. This example highlighted the crucial role of context in information consumption. As the workshop progressed, the focus shifted to the fundamentals of critical thinking, equipping students with tools to evaluate information and avoid falling victim to falsehoods.
To conclude, the presenters shared information about two significant European programs: the European Solidarity Corps and Erasmus+. These initiatives offer valuable opportunities for students to broaden their horizons and engage in international experiences.
Many thanks to the school management, the teaching staff and especially the students for a successful event!
