Secondary Technical School of Civil Engineering, Mělník

On 26 November, another workshop focused on misinformation and media literacy took place at SPŠS Mělník, this time for third-year students.

The goal of the presenters was to show students how to navigate the issue of manipulative content and why the emphasis is on verifying facts from multiple independent sources. At the beginning, students were introduced to basic terms such as “disinformation”, “fake news” or “propaganda”. This was followed by a presentation of media credibility indicators and a discussion about the Czech media space. In the second part of the workshop, the students actively participated in a discussion on how to interpret information correctly and the importance of context in understanding it. The workshop concluded with a presentation of the principles of critical thinking and highlighting the important aspects that need to be taken into account when evaluating information. Finally, the possibilities to participate in the European Solidarity Corps and Erasmus+ programmes were presented.

Thank you to the school management, teachers and students for the great cooperation in the realization of this event!
